Wen Zhang

Ph.D Student
Phone: 480-294-9046
Email: wzhang76@gatech.edu

Wen was born in Beijing and currently a Ph.D. student at Georgia Institute of Technology. Previously he studied at Arizona State University for PhD from 2007 to 2009 and then transferred to GT in 2009. He earned BS degree from Tsinghua University (Beijing, China) in 2004 and MS degree with honor from Tongji University (Shanghai, China) in 2007. His academic interests lay on the interdisciplinary research on nano-scale material (biotic/abiotic) characterization with ultramicroscopies (AFM/SEM/TEM), interfacial, and biophysical phenomena in aquatic environments. The over-arching goals are to bridge the knowledge gap on the connections between the nanoscale properties of nanomaterials and their environmental behaviors as well as potential biological effects.

Kungang Li

Ph.D Student
Phone: 404-358-3499
Email: kli42@gatech.edu

Kungang’s research focus on the implication of nanomaterials. In particular, I’m interested in how the nanomaterials interact with biomacromolecules and influence the biochemical processes involved.

Wei Zhang

Ph.D Student
Email: weizhang1987@gatech.edu

Wei’s research focuses on carbon capture using microalgae. Due to the global warming issue and diminishing world oil reserves, algae-based biofuel shows a great potential as feedstock for renewable energy production. His goal is efficiently to utilize microalgae to sequester carbon dioxide from flue gas coupled with fuel production.

Jia Yang

Ph.D Student
Email: jyang72@gatech.edu

Jia Yang joined School of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Georgia Institute of Technology in 2009, and now works as the second year Ph.D student under the instruction of Dr Yongsheng Chen. She was graduated from Tsinghua University (China) and got her master degree there. Her research interests focus on “coupling microalgae biofuels production with wastewater treatment technologies”

Nicole Sullivan

Master Student
Email: gtg273y@mail.gatech.edu

Nicole Sullivan is a 2nd year master student in Environmental Engineering. Nicole graduated from Georgia Tech with a BS in Civil Engineering in 2008. Research interests include water treatment and water quality, with a particular interest in emerging contaminants. Current research includes analyzing the effect of advanced oxidation processes, particularly UV irradiation, on nanomaterials.

Li Yang

Visiting Ph.D Candidate (Beijing Normal University)
Email: liyang_bnu@yahoo.cn

Yang Li is a visiting Ph.D student from Beijing Normal University and her major is Environmental Chemistry. Yang graduated from Beijing Normal University with a Master Degree in Environmental Science in 2009. Her current research mainly focuses on photocatalytic degradation of organic pollutants in water.

Ying Yao

Research Engineer I
Email: ying.yao@ce.gatech.edu

Ying achieved master degree in environment engineering from Tongji University (Shanghai, China) and Arizona State University. Her past research experiences were enhanced biological phosphate removal; bioremediation of subsurface contamination; and reductive dechlorination of chlorinated chemicals. Her current research interests include environmental behaviors of nanomaterials, the interactions between nanomaterials and biosystem, and analysis of trace level metal- based nanoparticles in complicated matrix.

Hao Jiang

Research Engineer I
Email: hjiang34@gatech.edu

Hao Jiang is a temporary research assistant in the group, he is currently working on RF subsystem design for Atomic Force Microscope as the purpose to research the resonance of nanoparticles and to enhance the subsurface detection method for nanostructures. His major is Electrical and Computer Engineering, and interested in Analog/Mixed-Digital Circuits, Power Electronics, Embedded System, and Biomedical Instrument.
